I am a line editor and copyeditor for fiction and nonfiction manuscripts. I have edited twenty books and counting for KGL. My goal is always to maintain the author’s authority over their work. Maintaining the author’s voice is paramount. I prefer a descriptive approach over a prescriptive approach as language and style are fluid and shifting. The main goal to editing a piece is to ensure the author’s message is clear to their readers. I remain attune to the details, the flow of words, and polish for clarity and consistency.

As copy chief, I edited all the internal and external documentation and material for the press. These documents ranged from press kits, review and blurb requests, to book jackets, sales materials, and press blogs. With four to five book projects in rotation, each with constant flows of material and the press blogs to manage, I maintained a detailed calendar and tracking system to ensure all deadlines were set and met according to press needs. I worked alongside the project managers to ensure their materials were ready when they needed and at the high quality expected.

Through hands-on and rigorous coursework in editing, marketing, production, and the business of book publishing, I worked through every stage of the book production process. My courses in developmental editing and copyediting cemented my foundational skills in English and how to examine a story from macro to micro. But also the nuance and artistry of writing, and how the author shapes the meaning because of their own views and experiences.
